Final post, Wage gap

Image
So for my final blog, I want to write about the wage gap. Mainly for the reason I didn't understand it while I was researching about elections. It really caught my eye and confused the hell out of me. While I was reading about it initially, all I could find about it was how it was a huge deal, but nothing told me why it existed or what caused it. So, I continued my research and found some answers.       I first had to start with, "what is a gender wage gap?"  The story almost everyone hears is, "Gender wage gap is that women make 78 cents to the dollar compared to men" but that doesn't give the full story.  That stat only represents uncontrolled  gender pay gap, which looks at a median salary for all men and women regardless of job type or worker seniority.  What often gets lost in translation with uncontrolled pay gaps is the women are less likely to hold high level or high paying jobs. I see that there is more of an opportun...

Elections.

I am going to do this one on the most recent election. Trump vs. Clinton To start with the first questions, how do elections influence an individual  political beliefs? Well I think campaigns are targeted a lot at young voters. In a sense, there is a generational gap between the older population and now. I think that life experience and age can make a difference on your voting preferences. Also the campaigns can really influence the younger generation that  may not have a side yet so those campaigns can (poorly) direct their mind in the direction that speaks to them. What have recent elections shown about the political beliefs of the American public? Well, I think it is all in the was they campaign, and what they stand for. For example, Hillary Clinton's political promises as president were: Free college tuition, Affordable health care, to close wage gaps, increased minimum wage and gun control. Trump on the other hand wanted to promise : Limit and or end immigration, incr...

Media.  I chose FOX and CNN as my two news sources. I chose the very broad event of whats is going on with North Korea.  I have found headlines from each on the front pages.  Fox is known to be the more republican news.  The First headline that pops up is : Threat of war with North Korea growin g" They say "president Trump will handle it." Trump says he will not allow N. Korea. It says that this pushes Korea to the brink of nuclear war. Also labeling Trump as insane.    CNN's headline was "  N. Korean missile images appear to have been tampered with"        O ddly enough the title was a bit misleading. It showed videos of the North Korean missile launching and also talked about how much bigger it was that the last. Concerns of Kim Jong-un developing a long distance missile are definitely floating around.  So these two are not super different. The biggest difference I saw while I was readi...

So for this exciting blog I am going to talk a little about the Republican party but more specifically, Ted Cruz. The Republican party is known for taking a more conservative stand on issues. They believe that the federal government should not play a big role in peoples lives. Most republicans favor lower taxes and less government spending on social programs .Ted Cruz,  Born on December 22, 1970, in Calgary, Canada,  Ted Cruz was frist discovered in 2012 with his surprising win of a U.S. Senate seat. Then in 2015, he became the first Republican to throw his hat into the 2016 presidential election. His father, Rafael, came to the United States from Cuba in the late 1950s. His mother Eleanor, was born in the United States and met his father when she was a student at Rice University. Cruz's parents split up for a time, but they reunited after Rafael developed a newfound interest in religion. Cruz demonstrated his gift for public speaking at early age. He...

Interest groups

I am going to talk about Pro and Anti- gun opinions. Anti-gun activists main points are that if we make guns illegal then we can: prevent suicide, disarm abusers, and overall end mass shootings. I understand where this, in theory, sounds perfect. Just because something is illegal, does not mean it is not going to cause problems anymore. For example, just look at the war on drugs. Most drugs have been illegal since 1914, yet even today more then 10% of high school kids have admitted to doing some sort of drug in the last 30 days. But anyway, I truly believe that the kind of people misusing firearms, are not going to care if they are illegal or not. We should worry more about the crazies then the firearms themselves because a gun cant shoot itse

Political Typology

So I took the test and tired to keep true to my opinions, no matter how bad the test tried to make me feel about it. I ended up being categorized  as a Young Outsider. Young Outsiders are a relativity young, but large group of people who have views both the Democratic and Republican views, they lean and the Republican side.  They are skeptical of activist government.  Also, they are a group of conspiracy theorists  and  a substantial majority views government as wasteful and inefficient. This is why we are planning to take them down and build a new government from the ground up.  Its a complex, but much needed process.
